Goober and the Ghost Chasers

ABC - Premiered 9-8-73

Tina, Ted, Gillie, and toboggan-wearing dog Goober work for Ghost Chasers magazine, hunting down spooks and investigating mysteries in supposedly haunted houses in this vintage Saturday morning cartoon.

Goober and the Ghost Chasers If that premise sounds familiar, it's probably because it's pretty much a takeoff on the successful formula of the Scooby Doo series of shows that originated on rival CBS. There are only three kids here, however, and one more interesting difference is that Goober has a super power: when he gets sufficiently frightened, he turns invisible. And since the he's a timid little mutt, it of course happens numerous times in each episode. The Ghost Chasers get an expense account to travel around the world in search of material, and (again, like the Scooby gang) get to meet up with a few celebrity guest-stars such as the kids from the Partridge Family, who appeared in half the aired episodes. They also get some nifty electronics gear, such as their Spector Detector, which indicates when the restless dead are nearby.

This Hanna-Barbera production ran for 16 episodes, through August 31, 1975 (the second season being reruns). World Vision Home Video released some episodes on VHS in 1985.
